experimenting further with my original room for dr. caligari, i tried a rougher, more emphatic drawing style in expressing the sensory qualities of the space. in my rough draft as shown below, i tried to use harsher lines and darker tones to evoke a stronger sense of sinister mystery.

the main focus of my room is the transition through the space - from private normality, through deceptive intimidation, emerging into a sinister personal space. this transition is highlighted by the use of light, as the knarled trees in the private section are less pronounced, but still hint at a sinister side of dr. caligari, followed by a dark and disorientating pathway. emerging into the private backroom housing cesare, the trees shadows are more intertwined, creating a crazier and more intimidating environment.
this technique was further perfected in the final submission.
